Royal Pump Room Museum

Royal Pump Room was above the old fountains of sulfur in Harrogate, which rigs with the highest concentration of sulfur in all of Europe, did not need to be “discovered” because of their smell. Number of wells and springs medicinal use was low to mid Victorian period. In 1864 there were 16 separate wells, but in 1886 there were already 30, with most of the water pumped to provide Baile Victoria. Only two sources were used to drink: Strong Hospital fountain and Magnesia Spring. Royal Pump Room is designed by Isaac Shutt. Completed in 1842, this was the first project of Carole purpose was to provide a suitable building to house the sulfur wells. Front cover of the fountain was moved to Tewit Well, where it remains today.
