The museum focuses on the story of middle-class working people since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution until today. The museum was closed between 2007 and 2010 for a restoration project of a few million pounds. Museum gets its funds from donations and charity. As an independent entity, in 1998 he received the special status of the Governmental Department of Culture, Media and Sport who admitted exhibits the museum has collections of national importance.
