Mortimer’s Hole

Mortimer’s Hole is probably the most famous cave in the city of Nottingham and its reputation suggests that he had a vital role in British medieval history. Cave is fap, a 105 meter long tunnel that keeps the top of Castle Rock down to the Brewhouse Yard. In the Middle Ages, River Leen flowed very near the base of Castle Rock, and Mortimer’s Hole was probably used as a short route from the river to the castle. Mortimer’s Hole is also known for the fact that history says this is the tunnel through which the soldiers of Edward III entered the Castle and apprehended dastardly Roger Mortimer in 1330.
